So, I’m coming down for my first Winfly this year – YAY!  When the sun goes down at night, will there be a chance to see stars or aroras, or is it still just a lightened twilight at night?  Any other cool Winfly phenomenons?

    See everyone soon,

Zondra, I knew you would show up soon enough. Hope your time off was good.

It will be dark for a little while, but the dark night will disappear fast. You’ll want to go out at midnight right from the start if you want to see an aurora. What you will see are the nacreous clouds. That’s the joy of winfly.
They are super high altitude clouds that can only form in very cold weather. The sunlight refracts through them making rainbows of color across the sky. Also instead of well defined edges the clouds then to be swirly for lack of a better term. It makes the colors even nicer.

    Hiiiiii Zondraaa!

Good on ya’ for coming back at Winfly. Doing anything different this season? Definitely look for the nacreous clouds, I almost like them better than the auroras.

Z  Bass-iclly it’s the best time of year.

On one of the other threads are letters from Kelli. Give her  a shout. She reminds me a lot of when you first started getting on the message boards. I remember talking with one of the NSF reps a couple of years ago and we were both saying at the time how we hoped you would be hired. Lots of enthusiasm you know. Anyway Kelli reminds me of you a little.  Throw some advice her way.

    Hey Z!

I’m going down Winfly, too! (oh, wait, you knew that…) Wanna go skiing in NZ when we get delayed?

    🙂

I’m looking foreward to Winfly – it’s kinda like going to the Ice for the first time – looking foreward to all the new experiences. Glenn will you make it to McM this summer at all, or will you still be at Palmer? I’ll still be working in Supply, but this time as the Material Requisition Specialist (Sarah Middleton’s old job).

I’m hoping to get delayed in CHC, so I can do some wintertime NZ exploring. Skiing? For sure! I’ve heard the Winfly flights often get delayed, is this true?

Yeah, it’s fun to see new excited people on these boards… I know it sure helped me a lot when I was trying to get down here. I’ll look up Kelli. Mike, do you leave at Winfly, or are you staying until Mainbody?

    Hi Z,

Nah, I’ll still be a Palmer until November or so. I think MCM is off the table this year.

Good luck at Mactown this year. You’re going to like Winfly.

I’ll be here till mainbody. I was supposed to move over to the heavy shop,  but Bex started  a business back home that is booming and she won’t be coming down. I’ll stay in the electrical warehouses till then.

Most years the winfly flights get delayed, but last year they all came in on time. That was my first winfly on the front end of the contract. I was disappointed.

Yeah, winfly last year too and no delays, people were caught off guard and were on the ice with beach wear instead of ECW until they got to Skua. Guess we all expected a few delays, I think Baileys sent an official letter of complaint about it too.

Good that you are heading back Zondra, keep the music going girl.

[font=Arial:ni5u2jm9]Any idea what sort of business Bex is into, or how to get in touch?  I don’t know what I did with her email address – all I can find is her parents’ phone # in NZ…[/font:ni5u2jm9]

I heard it was a home interior decorating business. Right up her alley. The note I saw was that all these rich people are falling in love with her accent and she is getting custormers hand over fist. I don’t have her email, I’ll pass it on if I find it.

Winfly question for you experienced folks: If I want to send myself stuff, will it get there on a Winfly flight, or will it wait in CHC until mainbody? Should I mail it by a certain time to make sure it gets there intime?

It’s just like mainbody. The larger the package the harder it is to fit on the plane. I think the winterover mail comes first then the winfly. Last year they got all the mail in cheech on the plane for winfly delivery, but that is not always the case.

Yeah, Clampet was amazed that so much came in at winfly last year, said he never had stuff come in before mainbody in his years there nad seemed like everything came in early last year, guess the new planes have the legs for it.

    Lucky.
