capnsteveApril 7, 2017 at 4:36 am #22134Hey Cap’n Steve! It’s been a while….so long in fact, I had to reset my password!
Just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope you all are doing well, on or off the ice.
I am applying for the Retail Supervisor position and would be very appreciative if anyone had any insights/advice they’d be willing to share either about the job itself (beyond the job description posted) and/or any skills I should strongly highlight in my application/resume that would be helpful in the job, but not necessarily covered in the job duties description?
Thank you and hope everyone is doing well in your corner of the world!
JadenApril 18, 2017 at 1:53 am #22135Hi! I’m a newbie, but I have just finished reading the “status” forum. Very informative! I’m glad you guys are trying to revive it.
I have an interview next week, can’t wait!April 18, 2017 at 2:07 am #22136Hi Jaden!
I have also applied for the Retail Supervisor- South Pole (status “received”). Last Update I got, my application was “available for viewing by hiring manager”.
However, I was not chosen for Retail Clerk- McMurdo; nor for Beverage Supervisor- McMurdo, thus, I’m assuming I’ll be rejected for Pole as well. …At least I know they are moving along with the applications (at least for McM).
No use giving you insight on my resume, since I was not chosen.
Good luck!-

May 28, 2017 at 2:36 am #22139Hey…hello Sea and jpan18…yeah, perhaps time to shake this forum up a bit. Hope both of you are having good luck!
June 6, 2017 at 3:50 am #22140Hey skua77 & sea, thanks for checking in. for some reason when I check online, it says I don’t have any applications in progress, but I did call and was told they already had a candidate in mind for the retail supervisor position (most likely a returner) but I would be contacted if they wanted backups, but nothing so far. i wonder how many applications they got?
June 18, 2017 at 4:24 pm #22141Hey jpan18, I know that there are many many people applying for all the jobs there. You just hang in and keep applying. It does help if you know someone. Try applying for a general assistant position to try and get your foot in the door. Good luck to all who are applying.
capnsteveOctober 2, 2017 at 10:17 pm #22145Hey Guys,

capnsteveNovember 22, 2017 at 6:45 pm #22153To all the people on the ice and to all the former ice people, have a great Thanksgiving!!!!
I give a round of applause to all the Galley workers that make a tremendous and beautiful meal.capnsteve
November 24, 2017 at 1:28 am #22156Happy Thanksgiving, Steve! Well, when this forum started years and years ago, the folks involved were on the ice frequently. We’ve all moved on/gotten old, but retained interest. Hang in there!
December 20, 2017 at 2:57 am #22161As we are approaching the australia summer solstice or winter for us back north. I came back on to share some hopeful news myself.
Some 5 years back i started to hint the idea going and working for the USAP. fast forward to 2017/2018 and after just saying so, i acted on it. Im currently an alternate for a heavy at the VMF in MAC. Almost complete with my PQ and being very proactive. I can’t help but that thank you few guys for the the little bit of advice but encouragement as well. All the paperwork and signatures is NO JOKE!!!! Same with all the PQ’ing but anything at this point, Plus I’ve been meaning to get those pesky wisdom teeth out anyways…
Hope to get down this upcoming winter, fingers crossed.
Thanks again! Happy Holidays
December 21, 2017 at 5:14 pm #22162GearheadM,
Good luck with the PQ process. Spent several summer and two winter seasons at the Heavy Shop. Lots of interesting pieces of equipment to work on. I think that you will have a lot of fun there.
capnsteveDecember 22, 2017 at 3:56 am #22163Hey thanks capnsteve. I did remember that you were once a heavy. Any advice, more like mechanical. Also, we’re you contracted thru PAE in your days? Curious
December 28, 2017 at 4:25 pm #22164GearheadM,
I was contracted thru Raytheon. They received an extension and then Lockheed took over. PAE is a sub contractor of Lockheed if my info is right. My advice is to work on the older equipment because you might never see them anywhere else especially the Cat D8. The new stuff will be good experience for when you get off the ice.
capnsteveSeptember 20, 2018 at 9:56 pm #22200I see Mike and Roxy virtually through Facebook. Would love to help make this a bit more active again and find out what the current scoop is on getting to the ice 🙂
