KeymasterHey Everybody,
I read here alot, but need some help. I interviewed with John, the Exec Chef at the South Pole today. But I don’t have health insurance, so does anybody know what it will cost me to get the physical and dentist visit(s). It would suck to get a job offer and then not be able to afford to go.

Memberhi Dan
costs could vary hugely–i think my physical alone (chest xray, blood, drug, full exam) was like $450 but if i had gone to a different doctor it probably would have been alot less, call around and find the cheapest place in your area. it can actually really add up….since they make you go so in depth and if you actually need dental work it’s down-right scary money-wise (and they don’t reimburse you for dental work). if you really want to go though, use credit cards/borrow…they do reimburse you eventually. i’m pretty sure they reimburse you even if you don’t pq so you really won’t be out anything.
does anyone know if you still get reimbursed even if you don’t pq? i know i was afraid of that happening when i was going through it.
anyhoo…you can make up for it by saving some good cash down here with no expenses. it’s pretty fun down here.
Good luck, Cookie John gave me my first job too 🙂

MemberRaytheon is suppose to pay for those Dr bills directly linked to your
physical. They may have you pay up front but they will give you the needed
paper work so you will get reimbursed for all those expences. Check over the
information packed for those forms when it comes. Our government pays
Raytheon for all those expences….its NOT out of Raytheons pocket in the
end.For those who do have insurance….Raytheon at one time wanted YOUR
insurance to pay for that expence and what ever your insurance would not
cover…they would cover. What a crock that was!! All it did was put either
more money in Raytheons pocket or saved our government a few $$$ that they
could squander some where else at another persons/companies expence.Im not trying to encourage you to turn on Raytheon…rather im trying to
inform you to not turn your back on them. You do a good job for them and
make sure they live up to there contract with you.Best wishes,
Rick

KeymasterHi, Dan!
The general physical, cleaning and x-rays should run you less than
$250 to start with – all reimbursable by RPSC. Unfortunately, beyond
the exam/cleaning, all dental work is your financial responsibility.
This is where the process definitely has the potential to get
expensive. I paid over $2000 to have my wisdom teeth out & some
fillings done before I could be cleared to go. Ouch! One suggestion (which I need to be better at): turn in all of your
expense reports RIGHT AWAY. You can have a check & be completely
repaid before you leave – just keep up on that paperwork.Good luck!

MemberIf you are in the Denver area Raytheon has a doctor
and a dentist that they contract with that will bill
RSPC directly for the services. No Cash up front from
you. There's also a lab not to far away from Raytheon
where you can go to do the blood work and urinalysis
at no cost to you. Call medical in Denver and ask for
the details.Good luck

KeymasterAs everyone said, everything but the extra work is covered and reinbursed. Sometimes even some of the extra stuff is reinbursed. For the last couple of years they have been making an effort to get the reinbursment money back pretty quick. By far the best option is to use the company doctor and dentist in Denver. I’ve done that a couple of times. I stay with friends, get the pq done and then move on.

KeymasterI didnt have insurance or money when I went to the doctor to PQ. Just make a minimum payment, if they allow that, and wait for Raytheon to pay you back. Then you can pay the doctor off. I had this question too, and was concerned. Dont worry, if you get the job offer, take it! ~Amy

MemberEven if you go to your own Dr, you can have your lab work done by Lab Cor. That will save you $200 out of pocket. They have labs all over the country. I used one here in Oregon for drug test.
