    thereʹs been a lot of news recently about nacreous clouds, also called “mother-of-pearl” clouds for their pearlescent look. another name for them is pscs, for polar stratospheric clouds.weʹve been seeing them at palmer for the past month. theyʹre here almost every winter, but i donʹt know that theyʹve ever been seen this early (last year the first sighting was sept 19th). a bigger version of the same image is here: http://iceboard.org/pictures/nacreous2.jpg

    lots of news in the papers around the start of august. yahoo news from the big wire services had the info wrong though.newspapers up in the states converted the temperatures incorrectly on the radiosonde readings and also the temps needed for the clouds to form. correct info and story was originally from http://www.aad.gov.au/default.aspʔcasid=23042http://www.aad.gov.au
