iʹve read that some people brew their own beer at amundsen-scott station and am wondering if thatʹs something that happens at mcmurdo as wellʔ is it even true people brew at the poleʔ
oh yes. homebrewing is not as popular as it was a few years ago, probably because theyʹre stocking some better beers now. but there are still brewers making their own suds. made some good stuff on the ice myself.south pole often doesnʹt have enough commercial beer to last the winter, so the brewing is more in earnest there. (a few years ago there someone got in trouble for abusing the cargo system because he was shipping in large quantities of whole grain malted barley for his home brewing. imo, they should have pinned a medal on him.) rumor has it that wine making is now the upcoming rage… iʹll stick with the hops.
coolǃ glad to hear that wasnʹt an unfounded rumor. interesting that thereʹs all-grain brewing going on down there. i would have imagined dry extract would be the preferred method because thereʹs less shipping and waste material involved but you can still make pretty good beer. bet you could make some killer applejack down there <ǃ-- s:) -->
