Well i made it to the ice today again for the second time.
I feel like an old explorer on my return trip to the vast wilderness that
makes Antarctica what it is..
The flight from Christchurch to McMurdo was on a new Air Force C-17 Cargo
plane, it was fast and roomy, the 1st pic shows how they pack us in, it was
a good flight either way.
We landed at Pegasus Field around 8PM eastern time, and the weather quickly
turned sour. I managed to get on a quick van ride back to town and then had
to wait for my luggage to arrive. Once i got my bags it was time to unpack,
make my bed and grab a shower, well to my discovery the shampoo bottle that
i packed was on the outer part of my luggage and was exposed to the -50F
temps today (-78F wind-chill) so needles to say i had to wait a bit to
shower till my shampoo thawed out.. the sink full of hot water helped!!
The flight here gave me a great opportunity to take some pictured from about
30,000Ft of the Antarctic landscape. attached are a few of the good ones..
This vast emptiness and the awe of natures beauty attract crazy people like
me back each year!!
