O.K. folks….the hiring season is mostly wrapped up, the winning bidder in for the next contract won’t be announced until October and Atlas isn’t manifested (yet) so in order to spark up conversations about other things, I thought it might be fun to run a trivia thread.
Here’s how it works:
1) A trivia question will be posted.
2) Post your answer – The person who posts the first correct answer (as determined by the person who posted the original question) gets to post the next question.
I believe this will be more fun if not every question is something that is easily wiki’d or googled but questions also shouldn’t be so obscure that only a handful of people in the world will know their correct answer….August 26, 2009 at 11:01 pm #9911
Ross Island has four volcanic peaks – what are their names and what are they named for?August 26, 2009 at 11:18 pm #9912
The extinct volcano Terror-Terror Peak
The active Mt errebus,
These two Peaks named after Ross’ ships the HMS Terror and the HMS Erebus.
Then there is Joyce Peak named after Karen,
And Dagger Peak.
So there’s a stab at it from a wannabe fng.
Or perhaps its just Erebus, Terror, Terra Nova(named after the rescue ship), and Mt Bird after cape Bird.August 26, 2009 at 11:31 pm #9913
Erebus – ship
Terror – ship
Terra Nova – Scott’s supply ship
Bird – from Cape BirdAugust 26, 2009 at 11:36 pm #9914
Spidey…Did you edit that answer? If so, did you do it before or after Atlas’s reply?
time stamp testingAugust 26, 2009 at 11:43 pm #9915
I did edit the reply, but it was before Atlas wrote his answer. The edit time should be on the post.
This message posted at 7:43 and I’m editing it at 7:45
And I did include two guesses, so I will defer to Atlas with the first clean set of answers. (Edited at 7:49)August 26, 2009 at 11:44 pm #9916
I guess the edit doesn’t matter….I’m calling Atlas’s answer most correct for using “supply ship” rather than “rescue ship”
O.K. Atlas…next question is yours!August 26, 2009 at 11:44 pm #9917
I do believe any ties go to the OAEs…
And no, I didn’t copy off of Spidey’s. I don’t remember even seeing that last line in there initially.August 26, 2009 at 11:45 pm #9918

What is the name of the crack that runs along the border of the Ross Ice Shelf, and the frozen sea ice of Ross Sound? We hear it every year during our PUSH course…August 26, 2009 at 11:53 pm #9920
Just so you know, the Terra Nova was first used in Antarctica as a rescue ship to attempt the recovery of the Discovery from McMurdo sound in 1903. It wasn’t until 1909 that the ship was bought by Bowring Brothers and refitted and used for the British Antarctic Expedition.

Big John?August 27, 2009 at 1:05 am #9923
Yes, it’s the Big John Crack. How the hell did you know that one? Wiki or Google?
Okay, your turn to ask a question, Spidey…August 27, 2009 at 1:32 am #9924
Comes from reading too many blogs, but also that part of what I do is teach people how to manage metadata and then how to search databases. I’ll have to thank the armada project for that one.
So I wanted to ask what Schmergsdorf was, but you’ll get that answer in 2 secs even if you’ve never seen the movie.
So maybe a better one would be…
What is this and what is the name of this painting and who is the artist?
And if thats too obscure, I’ll happily give credit for giving me a reasonable summary of the plaque on top of (wrong place) Ob hill that references George.
Correction, and this shows that I’m an idiot that has never been to the ice, The cross at Hut point is what I meant, not Ob hill.
