A calling card is the best (and only) way to make a call home. The way it works is that you have a phone in your room. You will dial an access number to get an outside line. At the dialtone you’ll punch-in the 800 number of the calling card. It then gets beamed into space, bounces off a satellite, and comes down in Brewster, WA. When the 800 number answers, dial the number you want, then wait for an answer. There can be a delay of up to a second when talking/listening. Annoying, but you get used to it.
I have a rechargeable AT&T card that I got at Sam’s Club (in 1998). It has served me well. Cost per minute is pretty damned cheap these days. You can recharge it over the phone.
There will be calling cards available at the Store, in McM, but you won’t find it to be a very good deal. Buy before you go.
Don’t rely on internet phones, as streaming is not allowed. The bandwidth just isn’t there.
