I’m a ham radio operator and we do lot’s of ham stuff down here. Get your licence and join us if you like that kind of thing. No code tech will get you into the summer ham club activities. General class is better for the winter. No real need for a scanner for the local stuff. Especially if you are an equipment operator. You will have a radio with most of the frequencies. The provided radios don’t scan though.
