Anyone remember Scottish Jim Graham- Scott Base 1978/79?

Postby juliet » Wed May 14, 2008 9:15 pm

Hi-

I'm looking for any McMurdo personnel who may remember my dad, Jim
(Jimmy) Graham- a Scots survival trainer at Scott Base in the summer of 1978/79?

I'm his daughter and I'm making a doco about his life. He was always socialising at McMurdo so I'm posting this in the hope of finding anyone who has memories of him.

If you do, I'd love you to get back to me- I'm coming to the States soon, so if you want to meet for an interview that'd be great. Thanks....

Juliet

Juliet,

Contact Colin Monteath in Christchurch. Google Hedgehog House and you will see his website links. I'm sure he can assist. Best of luck.

Cheers, Tom

Somebody may have a link to the OAE society. That's Old Antarctic Explorers. They are all the people from that time frame that might have known your dad.

Juliet,

I assume you have been in contact with Colin at this poiint. If not, he was the senior guy on the Scott Base team that provided snowcraft training. If he didn't know your Dad I would be surprised. If they didn't work at Scott Base at the same time he will be able to tell you who to contact. Another possible source to talk with is Peter Cleary. I don't have a contact for him but Colin might, or the folks at the AntNZ office in Chch. Also the current head of the New Zealand program, Lou Sanson, started in the program as a instructor at Scott Base and he might also have known your Dad.

Juliet,

Assume you mean the OIC of Scott Base. That name does not ring a bell as someone at McMurdo. Ask around to some of the old hands in the NZ program. Try Mike Mahon. Good luck.

Anyone know who was the skidoo mechanic at McMurdo in the summer season of 1978/79? I think he was a civilian. Cheers Juliet

I think it was Chuck Rush, from Las Vegas.
